I used tooth paste. I think it was Crest

Found this idea from vintage car restorers who need to restore the delicate bakelite knobs on the dash. It is a very mild abrasive obviously to use in your mouth. Safe for your teeth, safe for your Parker butt plate.
I'm sure there are other ideas but this worked for me.
