Debated going quail hunting today as it was doe rifle season in WV. Waited until 11:00 to get started. I could tell there had been hunters early as there was a fresh skiff of snow. If I had seen a bunch of trucks/ deer hunters. I would have gone home. Parked the truck, and as I was powering up the Garmin, a covey of quail sauntered across the gravel road.
Put Doodle out by herself, but went the opposite direction of the covey, hey, I wanted to hunt, not just shoot. Got into birds in the autumn olive and missed my first 3 birds, but made good on the next 3 shots. Carried the old reliable VHE 20.
The day before, I hunted pheasant with Willie. Just imagine trying to get into that mess to flush the bird that came up about 20 yds In. I couldn't get a shot but my buddy dropped it.
