Moon here in NOVA land last night was bright enough to read a newspaper by! Lots of wildland activity and birds and mammals moving as a result (my conjecture). At not quite sunrise yesterday morning our resident huge 8-pt. buck casually strolled across the back yard, our resident flock (c. 8-10 birds) of wild turkeys eased out of the woodlot shortly thereafter to feed (I notice they love to come out just after a gentle sprinkling of rain to feed!). Around 3 this morning, one of our 3 resident owls sounded off in a strange, almost whistle-like cry before the deeper throaty hooting. All in the background of an unsettling northeast wind coming in spurts, taking ever more leaves off the rocking trees. Fall is definitely upon us with all of its sights, sounds and smells - there is nothing else like it!
