Some more detail: National Capital Skeet and Trap Club, Inc. NCSTC was established in approximately 1932 in Chevy Chase, Maryland and it was formerly named Montgomery Skeet Club until 1935, when it was renamed National Capital Skeet and Trap, Inc., and moved to Bethesda, Maryland.
In 1954, National Capital, a Maryland corporation, moved to 16700 Riffleford Road, Darnestown, Maryland, and operated a skeet and trap facility there. In 1979 the club allowed the MD DNR to purchase the land to incorporate the property into the Seneca Creek State Park Complex.
In October 2003, operations ceased in response to a threatened lawsuit by Potomac Riverkeepers, a local environmental group, citing shotfall(s) impacting a nearby stream protected under provisions of the Clean Water Act.
Negotiations with State, DNR and local officials dragged on to no avail and the facility was subsequently closed permanently in 2006. The property now functions as a stump disposal area for tree maintenence and arborist activities within the park.
