I spent way too much time taking guns apart and weighing pieces today, but it gave me a little clearer idea of things
With the idea in mind that Receivers may make up some of the variations, I weighed all my 0 frame gun receivers, and here goes:
DHE with SSBP, 2lbs, 15.4oz. (DT)
DHE with SSBP, 3lbs, 0.4oz. (Parker Single Trigger)
DHE with SSBP, 3lbs, 3.2oz. (DT)
VH with DHBP, 2lbs, 15.4oz (DT)
VH with DHBP, 3lbs, 1.4oz (DT)
DH (16ga)with SSBP, 3lbs, 2.6oz.
Max Deviation was 3.8oz in six different receivers. All guns were Meriden Mfg. So much for the idea receivers are the source of the variation.
I then compared 2 Titanic barrels, both 26" 20ga 2lbs, 7.2oz, and 2lbs, 8.6oz. (Hmm, 1.6oz of extra solder?)
I then threw my postal scale in the truck and went to my buddy's house and weighed two identical 26" 20ga Reproductions, straight stock, single trigger:
Gun #1(20-27xx) weighed 6lbs, 5.8oz.
Receiver: 3lbs, 0.2oz,
Fore End:6.4oz,
Barrels:2lbs 15.2oz
Gun #2 (62X, NOT 20-62X) Weighed 6lbs, 9.6oz.
Receiver: 3lbs 3.2oz
Fore End: 6.8oz
Barrels: 2lbs 15.6oz
