I much prefer my .45-90's with 300gr cast bullets to the smaller faster bullets. I put two shots through a caribou's heart at 250yds using iron sights some years back; can't see well enough to do that these days! I've never lost an animal hit with one of my .45cal cast bullets either. One shot is generally all you need and they don't ruin much meat at all, which I really appreciate. I had to throw away 50# of an 80# moose neck one year after a friend peppered it with his .25-06 from 50yds. What a mess that was.

I killed a tree like that myself Dean, shooting at a woodcock in Minnesota with Bruce and Charlie and others. I got the woodcock though!
