I would not put a gun oil on the stock. There are products compatible with older finish stocks. I use one that I purchased from the Double Gun Journal on occasion, and, depending on the gun and its original finish, I may rub in a couple of drops of linseed oil. Unless the stock is exposed to the elements, it doesn't need much beyond a light application...sparingly applied.
