At the time of his death in 1960 from his fourth heart attack his gun collection was valued at one half million dollars. He had a dedicated gun room in his home that housed his collection of gold inlaid Colt's, big game rifles and shotguns. Carol Lombard was killed along with her mother in a plane crash during WWII while traveling to help sell war bonds. Gable enlisted as a Private but rose to the rank of Major by war's end.
