A longer bore gauge will allow checking the entire bore for irregularities in boring/honing/polishing etc. A 16” gauge will allow you to check a set of 32” barrels. You can also measure the length of the forcing cones and the length of the choke. Some Parker chokes have been measured at about 6” in length and I once measures cones of 9” in length on a set of barrels that had been severely “messed with”.
