My feeling about your 42 is that the rib and Cutts were probably put on when the gun was new. The visible screw attachment system did not survive much after 1949. I have never seen that attachment on a gun made in the fifties. My 28 gauge Pigeon Grade was made in 1948 and has the screws. Until I heard about yours, mine was about the latest gun I had seen with the screws.
