A capped pistol grip is exactly what the name describes. A "pistol grip" was often used in the stock book to describe what we know as a half pistol grip or a round knob but is often confused to be a capped pistol grip. We need to be very careful in our interpretations of what is actually recorded vs what the gun demonstrates.
And "ball grips" are found almost exclusively on lifters though there are a very few known to be original on later guns.
