They stopped making them for a bit because it was to costly to make and they were getting beat up on price point compared to other O/Us. I think Ruger is a fine gun and I have one of their sporting clays models. They started making the red labels again a few years ago and found a less expensive way to make them. New guns look like my old sporting clays model that took the rib out between barrels to eliminate weight.
I always liked the look of the gold label sxs they tried to sell a few years ago, but they only sold them in 12 gauge and I think they had some firing pin issues. If they ever came out with a 20 gauge, would have gotten one.
Btw not a fan of the Ruger selective safety. It has to be angled one way or another. Dad has a 20 gauge red label that I loved to shoot and killed first grouse with it in Minnesota. We got into a thick covert of grouse and there must of been 6 or 7 flushes and they were going in all directions. Had one sailing over my head in a clearing about 60 feet up and had it dead to rights. Shouldered gun and slide safety forward, I thought, and gun would not fire. Safety was in the middle instead of left or right, and either barrel would have worked for that shot. Dang bird was flying so slow I had time to lower gun slide safety over and then fire a get outta here shot. That bird was lucky that day and I think knew it. When I swung up it saw me pointing gun at him and I swear I could see him eyeballing me and almost flew a circle over me and I swear was giving me the middle digit.
