The stock would have been checkered. Just like your forend. If i saw additonal photos of the stock, i could maybe provide a further opinion.
Ringing the barrels of a SxS is an indication that the ribs are tight and have no issues with the solder joints. That is it. It has nothing to do with the steel quality.
