Tonight, with a nice fire in the woodstove, I'm going to begin reading Foster's "New England Grouse Shooting" once again. It is a great read and I really enjoy Foster's style and local knowledge. I recognize surnames of characters in his stories as well as names of places in and around Andover, Tewksbury, and North Reading. He mentions the "Shawsheen Meadows" and I live right at their edge along the Shawsheen River. And Uncle Ev's "The Little Gun" is very easy to imagine the feel of, as I have had three just like it - in fact I still have one of them. See "Shot To Destruction" in the Autumn 2015 Issue of Parker Pages.
