On one trip to Michigan we arrived late in the day and decided to let the dogs run before it got dark. On the second pass by my oldest setter was covered with blood to the back of his rib cage. There was so much blood it was difficult to see where it was coming from. Turns out he had a hole punched through his tongue as if someone used a paper hole punch on him. I was beginning to wonder just how much blood a dog could loose before being in serious trouble. I plugged the hole with EMT gell and it stopped bleeding in short order. We ran him the remainder of the week and it never bled again.
