The whole perception that good gun springs will somehow become fatigued by lengthy compression is of very doubtful validity. Hence, I use snap caps to test lock function, not relax spring tension.

And there is some value in protecting a good hammer gun against hazards.

But if it makes you feel better to relax springs with snap caps, by all means do it...
