I've just begun loading my shells (2nd box today). After reading this about spreader wads, I experimented today. I'm shooting a more modern 3 1/2" 10 gauge. We're limited to no larger than #7.5 shot a the skeet range. I'm loading 19 grains of Red Dot, an SP10 wad w/ (2) 1/2" long 16 gauge fiber wads & 1 1/8oz. of shot. Figured I'd load them for as long as I can full length, then cut them down as they start to split. Yes, I'm a tightwad.

At 25 yards, both barrels are shooting about a 16" circle. This is tighter than my 28" modified choke 12 gauge. I want a better chance at skeet, so I loaded a couple of shells where I sandwiched the shot between the two filler wads. Patterns from both barrels opened up from 16" to 22". Now I've got to try putting both filler wads on top of the shot.
