Habitat destruction. You can search the internet and see pictures of the unbelievable amount of logging that went on in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Michigan,New York,Pennsylvania,Appalachia,etc, were all stripped of their old growth hardwood timber to build America.The passenger pigeon was doomed by living in the wrong time and place.The same thing is still going on in a much smaller scale with many of our songbirds.No habitat left.
