A Tribute to Harry Marshall, USMC
Today my wife and I attended a memorial service for our recently deceased good friend Harry T. Marshall III, USMC, wounded in action in Vietnam 7-4-68 for which he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was one of only three left standing that day and he saved a lot of lives fighting on through his two wounds, one a rifle shot. Harry used to like to say he thought he would join Thomas Jefferson as having died on July 4, as he witnessed the Viet Cong who shot him.
Harry was a direct descendant of Colonel Charles Marshall, General Robert E. Lee's aide-de-camp, and was related to Chief Justice John Marshall and General George Marshall of WWII fame.
Harry, who enlisted during Vietnam, was a true Virginian, Southerner, American hero, and proudly ALWAYS A MARINE!
