If you are to shoot the gun a lot, would be best to stick with the splinter forend. Not that it hasn't been done by a lot of others in the past, but you don't want to take your chances on it.
Besides, that BTFE is not the proper length to even pass as an original at first glance.

Now... If you wanted to use that nice wood, that BTFE can always be worked down to a splinter. Providing the barrel channels are not excessively hogged out.
