Serial number 231691 would be about a 1929 vintage gun, yet the box label says it was targetted with 3/4 ounce of #7 shot. The .410-bore 3-inch cartridge with 3/4 ounce of shot didn't come out until mid-1933 with the Winchester Model 42 pump. In 1929, the 2-inch .410-bore cartridge carried 3/10 ounce of shot and the 2 1/2 inch .410-bore cartridge 3/8 ounce of shot.

That 3/4 ounce of #7 shot contains 224 pellets. The label says the gun printed 127 R, 127/224 = 56.7% and 136 L, 136/224 = 60.7%.

Did this gun languish in inventory for over four years until the 3-inch .410-bore cartridge came out? None of my Winchester, Western, or Remington ammunition catalogues from the early years of the 3-inch .410-bore cartridge offer it with #7 shot.

Curious
