Charlie,
We were both shooting my 8 gauges. I was shooting my Parker and he ( Dave) was shooting my W C Scott and Son. We were shooting 1 7/8 of #2's. Coyote was about 30 yards running full bore straight away from Dave and quartering from me. We both shot about a split second apart and he dropped. I can hardly wait until until October this is usually the best month to call. Our best days are 5 and 13 in a day. I like to use the Burnham Brother J1 call (Distressed Javalina ). Since I lost this one yesterday, I ended up using their Black Magic call. ( Distressed Rabbit). Most Coyotes I call come in within the first 5 to 10 minutes. I start out my calling sequence with 4 light calls and then wait at least 2 to 3 minutes before calling louder and longer. This coyote came in in less than 1 minute. Coyote hunting is like calling turkeys only a lot faster action. It's amazing how fast they come in sometimes and how they just appear from no where. Our best day in the last 30 years was 13 coyotes actually shot. On that day my brother George and I were shooting rifles and had 7 coyotes come in on one stand, and were able to shoot 3 of these. Also shot a number of doubles were we both shot 1 each. Calling coyotes is really exciting with an occasional Bobcat, Badger, fox, or even a Mountain Lion coming to the call. We have also called in lots of Deer and Javalina.
