The auto safety is actuated by a small rod that passes through a hole drilled in the wood. One end of the rod bears against the locking bolt and transfers motion to the safety button when the action is unlocked for opening. Guns could be ordered without the rod, or, the rod could have been removed. If you are adamant about an auto safety, and remove your stock to investigate, I have a pushrod you can have if the hole is present. A hole could be drilled, but it would have to be in the right spot, because there can't be a 'do over' unless the hole is filled and another attempt is made. Good luck!
