julias lot #2281 barrels
What company made the barrels on this DH? I'm fairly certain the gun was not originally a 28ga. The description says the dolls head is slightly proud and nicely chamfered to fit and it is. I noticed the hinge pin is turned and these are ejector barrels on a extractor gun, The little piece of rib matting that is shown looks to be"Parker looking". The water table on the barrels is marked "D Grade" and the serial number is in the wrong place. Poor looking gunsmithing on a gun of this grade. What say you experts?

The consensus is they are Parker Reproduction barrels

I cant believe that Julia's is selling this gun. It is not like this is a second set of barrels. It is the ONLY set.
I have seen them sell Parkers with two sets and one set is aftermarket/european. Dont get me wrong- I think it could be a nice shooter if the smithing is proper. |
George, the gun is what it is, someone may be interested in it, and the auction gavel price will establish its value.
Small bore and high grade Parkers are in scarce supply and always in demand for auction houses and people always want to see them. There will be a buyer for the gun. |

It may be part of a group of guns from a single consignor, but it certainly doesn't compare to the other Parkers included in the auction. They have sent over better guns to Poulins, and this one sort of fits Poulin's usual level of guns. It's kind of neither fish nor foul, as it's not a repro, but not entirely a Parker. I guess, push come to shove, I could make room for it though. |

Speaking of Poulins auction house, if anyone is interested in a 16 ga VH project gun, poulins has one coming up at the March auction. Lot # 1196, 16 ga VH, O frame, 28 " bbls, est. $900-$1200
Ser # 189628 |

Thanks! John D. DLH |
What marks or characteristics identify theses barrels has reproduction barrels. I'm one day going to buy a small bore and am trying to get an education without paying dearly for it later. Thanks.

For openers, the rib will not have Parker Bros, Meriden Ct. Vulcan Steel rolled into it. I think the rib has Winchester Reproduction stamped into it. The S/N will have the gauge #, a dash and then a 4 or 5 digit number. Its been a long time since I sent my repro down the road so memory fails me about further details.
I still have the stock that split through the wrist around here somewhere. And the letter from Larry Del Grego concerning the defect in the gun that caused it to not open after taking a shot at a straight overhead bird. |
