Smudges Explained
More progress once again thanks to Steve Culver
http://www.doublegunshop.com/forums/...=309112&page=4 Tom Carter sent me images of this very interesting 1881 Grade 5 Lifter. It was ordered as a "Donation to N.Y.S.A., Special Prize 1881 N.Y.S.A., For Protection of Fish & Game" The Charles Parker Co., N.Y. did not bill for the $225 cost of the gun. It has the only 6 Iron Turkish barrels I've seen on a lifter. http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/19406549 The barrels have a number of decarburization flaws and I suspect Parker used known cosmetically inferior tubes for a 'give away' gun http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../290449482.jpg http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../290449481.jpg http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../290449480.jpg http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../290449478.jpg Here's a GH D3 barrel refinished by Tom Flanigan http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../278327235.jpg |
