Better than nothing

Well, I took the little girl and a Parker for a walk and there were a few ducks on one of our ponds, not much liquid water though. Finally a warm day that got up to 23 above. A few ducks stirred around and we jumped 14 or 15 mallards. Got one chance and connected with the right barrel missed with the second. I try not to shoot hens but it has been so long since I had a chance I just went for whatever was there. The good thing is they are finally moving around and I may try to get some shooting over decoys this weekend. Might try the 20 gauge repro. next time. it is a duck slayer for sure.
By the way, I bought that duck strap in high school brand new and I'm 63 now. It cost me $3.50 and you could still read the price until a few years ago. :)

Sometime we just need to be gratefull for what we are given, a day in the field with a good dog and a Parker is priceless.

You won't tell the difference on the dinner plate between that hen and a drake.

That strap is really neat, especially the fact you've kept it all these years. I'd really like to have my old hunting coat and cap from 45 years ago. Those old coats and vests are probably collectable, especially the old camo patterns. Like you, I really try hard to shoot drakes and feel a little bad when the hen falls. Great pictures.

Peter, nice looking gun and beautiful dog...You did really well.

I'll have to show a picture of the strap my wife had made for me a few years ago. She took that old one to a saddle maker and had him copy it with some added features. Had one made for our son too. They are even more special than the old one.

Great story. The straps at Bass Pro are not nearly as nice and cost more than $3.50.

Yes that's true and I remember that the brand was "Hunter" and I think they still make some leather goods but no longer make duck straps.
