Had a wonderful quail shoot this past Sunday on Maryland's eastern shore with PGCA's new member Kevin Cordell. I was toting my go to upland gun, my VH 28 and then I changed guns midday and took my PHE 20, the last one produced. I just had to bag a couple of birds with her and she did'nt disappoint me. The first point of the day produced one of two doubles with the trusty 28 that day witnessed by fellow PGCAer Kevin. I'll be applying for my pins shortly. The weather was perfect, 40 degrees, damp and cloudy so the scenting conditions were the absolute best. Kevin was shooting a lovely Rigby 20 bore and a gorgeous Fox CE 20. The Rigby is in the first photo with the PHE. That's Parker on point on the last bird of the day.

We had 50 birds released and bagged 45. I've hunted wild quail for 40yrs. and these birds were just as explosive as any wild ones. Truly a great day with Parkers (the gun), Parker (the dog) and Kevin (the Buddy). Wish you all could have joined us. My boy Parker (the dog) has a new nickname, Hoover. He had 40+ solid points and the retrieves to go with them. Hoover refers to the vacuum cleaner. He just sucks up the scent and leaves nothing behind. On one memorable point a single flushed and I just clipped it, breaking a leg. As it flew across this stubble field to a tree line 125yds. away I could see a leg dangling so Parker and I took off after it. Between the original point of the flush and the tree line Parker pointed 6 more birds which were dispatched with aplomb. Upon reaching the treeline Parker found the expired bird and brought him out of the cat briars. I returned to the area of the original flush which started all this with 7 birds in the bag. What a great day with a great dog, great guns and a wonderful friend to share all of this with.

Looks like a great time Daryl, and two doubles to show for it. Nice shooting!

Daryl, that was a great hunt! I've held that pretty little PHE and I don't know as I've held a Parker that tripped my heartstrings any more than that one! You and Kevin are lucky to be able to take in a day of gunning for Mr. Bob in the middle of 'our' winter here in the North land where all game seasons are done with.

Best to you and I hope you're able to get out at least a couple of more times before your season too, ends too soon.

Thanks Mike. The old Parkers did all the shooting. All I did was was keep them loaded. Dean, we'e got at least two more planned. Come on down and get out of the cold.

Great hunt Daryl...it might just be worth the drive and I know Daisy would appreciate it. The only problem would be what to bring to shoot:whistle:

I would suggest you bring a U-Haul

Rich Anderson 01-16-2013 09:36 AM
