Dewey Vicknair
Just got an email letter from Dewey that he is ceasing operations on March 31st. I have had lots of great work performed by Dewey on my doubles and am very sad to see him go. Aside from him being close to me (proximity), he was a good guy to hang out with.
Since I have really only worked with Dewey, whom else can the board recommend that can perform to his level of work? Thanks, KC |
Wow. That's a shocker. I hope he's alright.

Yup, got the email. I am extremely disappointed. He has helped me through some difficult situations. I hope his next project is satisfying for him.

Here's a copy of Dewey's PDF I received today..... best I can do converting it to a Word document.
Vicknair Restorations Dewey Vicknair, Gunsmith d 565 Oak Lane - Lititz, PA 17543 d 717-626-4226 http://www.VicknairRestorations.com January 01, 2013 Dear Friends and Clients: Effective March 31, 2013 Vicknair Restorations will cease business operation. I did not come to this decision lightly, many factors were weighed and in the end, regardless of how much I might enjoy my work, I simply can not afford to remain in business. The financial cost of things like taxes, health insurance and liability insurance and the physical costs of constant exposure to lead, solvents and other toxic chemicals, combined with the general stress of dealing with paperwork, regulations, taxes, audits, liability exposure, etc. leave no other option when considered logically. Having to be personally responsible for every phase of business allows less time than I would like for actually performing gunsmithing work. In these final months, I will endeavor to finish - to my usual standards - those projects that have been started. Any guns that I have not yet started will be returned. Return shipping will be at the customer's cost and should be arranged via e-mail. If you will be picking up in-person, e-mail would also be the best contact method. In closing, I would like to sincerely thank everyone for the opportunity to help preserve these great old guns. Dewey |
Shame, the man was one of the best out there. Soup to nuts he could do it.

Sounds to me like Government regulations got him, I know personally several small business that have closed the doors recently because of them, just to bad!
|
Buried by paperwork.
|
It is the intention of the regulators to make all things to do with guns difficult.
