Quail in So Cal
2 Attachment(s)
Took Monday to explore more of Los Padres National Forest.
It is 1.9M acres in size with spectacular views, challenging because of the terrain. California quail are doing well this year. Three hatches reported. Where there is water, you can find birds. We found a remote camp site and hunted hillsides, river bottom and brush. Moved two coveys. Had I been a better shot, we would have brought home dinner. My Vizsla, Belle comported herself well. The GHE 20 is a pleasure to carry and shoot. |
Mark,
That is a beautiful part of the world. I am glad you are enjoying it with you dog and Parker. My cousin was President of El Tajon Corp and they had a home on the Tejon Ranch, a massive 270,000 acres in the mountains near Lebec and Gorman. I had just returned from Viet Nam in late 1968 and they treated me like a king. I would visit and roam the ranch with his children. It was a wonderful spot "far from the maddening crowds ignoble strife"...... Harry |
"challenging because of the terrain"
Keep in mind that Sonoita is at 5000 feet Mark ;) http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../293839033.jpg Gardner Canyon Road will look like a SoCal WalMart parking lot this Sat. :( |
