Hope and Change

There is a little more than a week befor firearms deer season begins here. This am I sighted in two of the pre 64 M70's I'll use for the two week season.
One more weekend with the Parker's and Daisy then I change to the Winchesters and hope for the big buck:rotf::rotf:

I know you were thinking I'd gone political:nono:

Had me worried for a minute Rich.

Rich, why do you have to resite? Or are you just checking to be sure. My model 70s have never moved off "dead on". My deer gun, a .375 HH, carrying a 6 power Lyman Alaskan is dead on at 200 yards. My woodchuck guns, a.243 target 70, with a Lyman All American is also dead on at 200 yards. The last 70, a .22 hornet with at Lyman 57 peep is on at 100. All the pre 64 Winchesters were great guns, just like all the Parkers.

I just like to make sure everything is where it should be. I moved the 300 H&H to be 3 inches high at 100 yards as I have a big area I can reach with that one. I haven't used the 358 in a long time, two shots confirmed it's dead on at 100 yards. I would hate to lose a deer because I didn't recheck my zero.

Somehow the Lueopold scope mounted on my Ruger No.1 sustained a pretty good dent in the tube but it is still dead on target.

I have a Leopold VariX 3 2.5-8 on a Remington model 700 Mountain chambered in 7-08 that I sighted 3" high at 100yds the day the gun was new about10 years ago. That gun has bee all over the US and Canada and has accounted for a lot of game and though most of our shots are inside 100 yards, every year I shoot a couple of deer with confidence at 300+ yards. As long as you are careful there is little need for resighting your rifle. Of course it’s a good excuse to go to the range for a little shooting.:)

I have always taken a couple of shots with the rifle I'll use in the upcoming season. Some of them haven't been out of the safe in a very long time. I can't remember when I last took the 358 into the deer blind. If I am going to put a bullet into a deer or whatever then that animal deserves to have the gun sighted in so I can make as clean a kill as possible.

Both Larry's and Rich's last sentences are right on the mark.
