Upper Peninsula Grouse

Eric Eis and I traveled to my place in the U.P. last weekend for some Grouse hunting. Weather effected us Saturday as it snowed but Sunday was great.

I have done a piece for PP so won't elaborate to much here but thought I'd include a few pics that won't make PP.

The first two are Daisy pointing where the Grouse was. Birds didn't hold well at all. Only at camp will your dining room table look like this:) Gunner's Parker and the prize and the last one is one tired Brittany using Eric as a chair...after all he is in her chair so it only seemed fair.

At least you actually shot grouse. So many of these grouse hunting stories seem to end up: We had a great time looking at the fall colors.....

And thats the truth, its still so thick here that I hear them leave the point but I don't get to see them. I plan to take the dogs and the DH out to look at the fall color again tomorrow.

Thanks for the pics Rich, I have not been to the UP in about 5 years, that was always good early work for the dogs.

Hunted the northern lower last weekend. Leaves were just starting to drop. The persistent wind (12-15mph) was what really made the hunting tough. At least the temps were seasonable, something we haven't had for the past 2-3 falls.

Moved grouse and managed to take a couple in spite of the wind. I have been surprised at how few birds I have been moving this year. My flush rate is probably around 1 bird every 45-minutes. Hardly impressive but it beats dreaming about them.

Destry, Rich and a friend of his got all the shots, 20 some odd birds flushed and I never saw one, I was in the middle and they flushed to the right and left, wrong place wrong time, good news I didn't have to clean the gun :crying:

Walking around with a dog and a Parker looking at fall colors isn't so bad.

Mike did you notice your bowl on the table? I'm heading back up this Friday for another long weekend...it's tough but someone has to do it:rotf:
