HOW MANY?

How many members do we have in the PGCA now? Around 1200? any one know?

Dean Romig 08-06-2012 10:31 PM

Mary Bowes supplies the BOD with a weekly membership report and as of Friday 8/03/12 the membership count was 1179.

Incidentally, in case anyone was wondering, we are "international" in our membership.

Amazing! from an idea in three or four guys heads that gathered every week to shoot in Charlottsville V.A. to this, we truly have an outstanding organization. Now if we can figure a way to get more young people involved to perpetuate the PGCA, maybe 20-30 years down the road the members at that time can look back and see the results of the hard work a lot of you guys put in to this group. I appreciate all you do, I am not into boards and things, done that already, just like to show Parkers around the country. I don't have to tell everyone how excited some people get when they see a Parker for the first time. We sort of take it for granted but a lot of people don't know about these wonderful pieces. Early morning rambling by Carmichael.

Gary,
Please don't under estimate how important what you do is for this organization. Bringing you excellent displays around the country exposes many people to our passion and I'd be willing to bet has gotten more than one person interested in collecting/shooting these fine old guns.

Gary, how about you join CH and me next FEB in Houston for the PGCA exhibit at the NRA convention ? We could have 70 fine Parkers instead of 50. Its a good venue to fly the Parker flag. I even bring two first rate C Bernards i got from you, thank you very much.

I hope my sons will one day be members. My youngest likes hammer guns

Bill Murphy 08-07-2012 05:47 PM

I'm not worried about young members that much, although every one is welcomed. How many of the 1179 members would have had this interest when they were 24 and struggling with a young family and a new career? Interest comes with leisure time and money.

I think you'll agree Bill, that the seeds of interest are sown a lot earlier than that.

To each his own but I think it would behoove us, as an organization of shooters and collectors and every related tangent, to get young people involved as early as we can. Who else will carry the torch thirty and forty years from now if the young folks are not welcomed with open arms?

Mills Morrison 08-07-2012 08:20 PM

I agree with Dean. It is why I take my boys outdoors whenever I can.

Gary Carmichael Sr 08-07-2012 08:34 PM

Bruce, I would like to do that but that is during my annual pilgrimage to florida, I appreciate the offer maybe when the convention is in the summer?, It would be hard to haul all those guns in the bus, not because of room but the florida humidity, We usually leave 1st of November back in early may and they would be out of the climate control I keep them in. I know it would be fun, you guys don't tell any lies when you are off and about do you?
