lifter input needed
I have a lifter that has a little horizontal lash with forend off should I get it fixed now or shoot it a little more loose?
Look at your lifters, is the slot in the tang screw and the screw in the floor the same width? If not what brownells bit fits the tang screw. Also got my 1st Parker (81 lifter) back from the smith he put it back on face for me. Stephan did an excellent job. Perfect fit closes like a bank vault. Made 3 screws and a bolt for it. |
Calvin: First thing any of us needs to do if we are going to enjoy these old gal's is buy the Brownell's "thin bit" screwdriver set. Get the biggest one they offer with the most bits. That should take care of any screw you find except some of the ridiculously thin European stuff you run into, which ain't your "bag" anyhow. Sides that, us farm boys usually have and know how to use a grinder. Have a great day!! Lee.

I didn't explane myself the gun I'm working on getting a couple of minor things fixed needs a new tang screw i'm trying to find out the with of the slot in a tang screw on a 81 lifter is it the same with as floorplate screw. I bought the Brownells set's great screwdrivers and I don't take them to the farm :) ch
You get the rest of the 16 yet Lee? |
Are you in need of new screws? If so which one?
|
Calvin: Can't help on the slot size. If you are making one I personally would make it the same size as the floorplate if for no other reason than to make it easy to use the same size screwdriver bit. Somehow I doubt if even the most "persnickity" of us Parker boys would consider the gun junk if the slot was off by a few thousands. BTW, I hope to have the rest of the 16 gage by the end of July. I'm told the frame and locks have finish as nice as the outside of the barrels. Wish the bores were that good. Lee.:bigbye:

John: I think I need a hammer screw for the top lever hammergun I am getting. I'm told one was missing and replaced with hardware store stuff. Shoot me a PM with contact info if you have or are duplicating the originals so I know what I am dealing with when I have the gun in hand. Lee.:)

I think that there is usually a bit of variation in screw widths from gun to gun.
I have a lifter here that is close to your vintage (S/N 18XXX). For the top tang screw, the Brownells 300-2 bit is the best fit out of the thin set, but that is a hear loose. I find that the 293-231 in my wheeler set is a better fit. It is a bit fatter. It is hard to tell the lower tang screw on this gun since the slot is a bit opened up on the ends. But the slot was wider than any of the thin bits to start with. I have found that my large wheeler set and the Brownells thin bit set gives me nearly all the bits that I might need. |
Thanks Brian just what I wanted. I am grateful. I have a Brownells super-set and a thin set. ch
