cold blue
 

bought me a bottle of cold blue to do a gun or too with...never tried this stuff before any body got any suggestions on using it the product name is perma blue... charlie

are you reblueing or just touching up?

touch ups are simple -degrease the area ( and don't touch that spot with bare hands after degreasing) follow the instuctions


a whole blueing job - clean off the old finish (they make blueing removers)and polish the part (barrels?) if the metal finish is good to start, I buff with 400- 600- and 1000 grits -then degrease and degrease again - same as above - no bare hands now.

apply in a smooth long stroke - let it sit per instructions - buff lightly and reapply

repeat until the finish gets to where you want it.

mostly - a good result is the result of proper prep work and cleanliness - then patience

thanks rich im gonna try a old single barrel first the old blueing is long gone im gonna do all of the metal on the old gun would yall recommend pulling the stock...wanna try and do a good job... charlie

bluing is not going to do the wood finish any good - I have always removed metal from wood - such as rifle barrels. just don't short cut on the surface prep - it will show in the final results

If the metal is polished well and clean, the Perma-blue works well for what it is. It also helps to heat the metal a bit before each application. When I have used cold blues, I would warm the parts in the oven a little to evenly warm them and then apply the bluing.

i will remove the stock and give the old gun the works before i put the cold blue to her...maybe i can take some before and after pictures..thanks all for the info... charlie
