L. C Smith Long range
 

I now have a L.C. Smith long Range . It has 32 in barrels in the field grade model. Acoording the LCSCA it is the earliest seriel number that they have encountered so far . My question is what is the best load size ie: Dre , shot wt. etc to shot through this waterfowling gun. And BTW, that is exactly what I will using it for . I will attached a few pics

I use the Classic Doubles shells from Cabelas in my Smith 12- it has 3" chambers, but not marked like yours, double triggers, auto ejectors and 32" Ventilated rib barrels. I only use the 2 and 3/4" loads- 1 and 1/8th oz. No. 4 (marked Hevi-Shot on head of shell) and they drop ducks and geese fine. I also use this Smith for Tower birds, fezzants at my local club in Grand Rapids, and pigeons at the Marion Club- when I can find them I use the older Federal Premium Copper Plated loads, again in 2 and 3/4" length only. Wish they were legal for waterfowl.

Jack: Do your barrels have the 'LLH' mark just ahead of the flats? LLH was the mark of Laurent Lochet-Habran, a Belgian barrel maker. Sanderson Steel is reported to have purchased barrels from LLH, and their mark has also been found on Fox, Ithaca, Lefever, Baker, and Hunter Arms Fulton and "Ranger" for Sears guns.

Drew , yes there is the LLH stamp on both barrels . Is this significant ? What does this mean . Thanks for what ever info you can give . Thanks

Thanks Jack. It's a common finding on "Armor," "London," and occasionally "Nitro" steel barrels, but the first time I've seen that mark on a LRWF.

Baker guns with 'LLH' may be marked "Nitro Rolled Steel" and "Fluid Temper Steel."

BTW: The three-lobed crown over a 'D' mark of Jean-Baptiste Delcour-Dupont of Nessonvaux is also found on Smith, A.H. Fox, Lefever, and Ithaca NID and Lefever Nitro Special A Grades

I have a Marlin LC Smith double that is a beautiful gun, however the foriron that keeps the forend on the barrels is broken. I have the broken part but would like to get a new one. I can't seem to find one, does any one have any idea's

Jack, I have a Field 1924 32" Smith that looks similar to yours without the 3" chamber stamp. The chambers may have been lengthened as it is now a 3" gun. I've shot 2 3/4" 1 3/8 oz Kent TM shells through it for geese without damage, but I wouldn't do it again unless I had it glass bedded to prevent cracks. They were effective, though.

I have a complete unbroken forearm iron with screws for a 12 gauge LC Smith- but for an O grade circa 1895- extractor gun. Sorry- I sold the part to a gentleman in Upstate NE-
