Trojan Doubling Up
 

At the sporting clay range today, (been shooting the same Parker Trojan for 23 years, shooting in the 40% range) at station ten, it starts shooting both barrels at the same time, even though only one trigger pulled. Did it two more times, had to borrow and O/U to finish. Anyone have a fix? I took it apart, cleaned the trigger assembly, reinstalled it and still doubling.

It's usually the sear ends being worn and rounded off, especially the right barrel which generally shot far more then the left. I assume you checked the little spring that holds the trigger blades down for tension?

Remove the barrels; can you make the left trigger move by moving the right trigger?
Place a tongue blade or soft wood against the standing breech; a dent in the blade will indicate hammer fall. Can you make the left hammer release on the wood by bumping the butt?

A lot of doubling is caused by dirt/grease buildup between the trigger extension blades.
Wear on the left sear may cause a double on recoil .

Thanks. I check the spring, still there and doing its job. One trigger does not effect the other, nor can I make the left hammer fall by bumping the butt. The trigger sear ends are a little worn, I will order new ones. Thanks for the help.

No need to order new ones. No such thing. Just have someone re-contour the ends up on a diamond stone. I did my own pretty quickly. Al Edge would be a good one to work on them. He did a marvelous job on the mangled sears on my sidelock hammer gun. If you post where you live others will chime in with names of competent gunsmiths near you.

Be careful with the sears! They have an odd shape and are easily rendered useless. I had a Trojan doing the same and it had a gob of gook uner the sear. Hop your back in business soon.

Dewey Vicknair would probably be an hour and change drive from Columbia. He's located in Lititz, PA. 717-626-4226. I know he has roughly an 18+ month backlog at the moment. That said, I dropped a Baker with a broken firing pin off with him two weeks ago and picked it back up today.
