We host special hunts and bass fishing events on the different ranches every year. There have been dove and turkey hunts for wheelchair bound kids and adults which were all successful.

Last year, however, we honored a WWII veteran with his last deer hunt. He was just not up to hunting the public areas and hated to waste an hunt or two without success. It is tough for him due to health concerns, but our ranch comprises rolling hills and with plenty of flats interspersed for easier walking.

I'm happy to say he was successful and got a nice buck on his first trip. Generally, the guides tell me they see at least 50-75 animals during an outing, with 10-15 good bucks. On this day he saw only 10-15 deer. It wasn't until after lunch when he finally saw and took his buck; he was delighted after seeing so few deer that day.

It was a pleasure to have this man and his family out for his last deer hunt. What a great guy with terrific war stories! No wonder we won that one

He can now enjoy his trophy and relive the event at home with his family. He was accompanied by his son and grandsons.

Happy Memorial Day to all.

Thank you Charlie. A few years ago the college boys next door to my beach home came down and were fixing to party it up. Then they told me that about eleven or twelve buddies were on their way down too. I asked them to take a short drive with me.
I took them to my little cousin's grave who was killed in Mosul on 21 December 2004.
Thank goodness they have never forgotten it.

Jess Turner's last deer hunt before hanging up the rifle. Pictured with his grandson (orange cap) and guides Tom Dermody and son Matt. Jess insisted in walking the hunt and if you look closely, you can see the walking cane by his leg...tough as nails.
