Not your usual Parker turkey gun

2 Attachment(s)
I was making my usual early morning drive through the farm today to check on greenhouses, etc when I came upon a group of 3 toms and 7 jakes.
I have never shot a turkey- ever. I continued to the barns and was about to head to my other job, when I said to myself -"S__T, I 'm going home and getting a gun".
So I headed north to my house- 9 miles away- and after 1/2 mile I remembered I had my Parker DHE Double trap gun (BTFE, Miller single, vent rib) in the back with all my usual ammo.
So I turned around, pulled in the access road to the farm, grabbed the trap gun, drove down the road by our compost area. After spotting the birds in the road, I did the unconventional and shot this Tom with a load of #6s from a Parker Trap gun.
Tomorrow I will try my 10 gauge top lever Twist with some of Morris's best shells.
I have the fever now.

Go George! What better gun than a nice long-bbled full-choked Parker of any kind?? Fill the freezer! We need turkeys in Alaska.

Nice job George! You obviously used the right gun for the job.

Well good job George, sounds like a fun hunt. I flew to Missouri, spent $175 for a tag, hunted hard for 3 days, got soaked and covered with mud, missed a jake, got my buddys four-wheeler stuck and came back to Oregon tired, broke, and hung over. I will be going back next year nonetheless.

ROD enjoyed the storey...have nt all of us made those hunting trips with no success andhunted and done our very best only to go home empty handed....AND like you hope to return next year....thanks for making us remember.... charlie

George, sounds like a good hunt with your 'new' gun (to be). How big do the birds get out your way?....22 #'s has to be way up there.

Dave, I had a similar hunt this last season and drove off the path into the pond (in reverse)....engine still running. Saved the Parker, not the $75 box of RST's. Might have a look this summer....probably shouldn't shoot them.
