Robt Dance Crazy Mountains Follow Up
1 Attachment(s)
Some months ago, I wrote a Parker Pages article on artwork featuring the Parker gun. One of the works featured was by Robert Dance "Crazy Mountains". Some of the material was also published here on the forum in a shortened version.
A short time ago, I received an email from the sportsman who commissioned the Dance work. I omit his name because of privacy concerns but the email is interesting: " Enjoyed your article about art including Parker guns and thought I'd add a little that might interest you. The Robert Dance painting of the Crazy Mountains is the result of a hunting trip we made to Montana in the late 90's. Mr. Dance and I are friends and he is a great naturalist, hunter and fisherman. The partridges are some that we shot and he hung and photographed to paint from later. The picture within the picture is also from a photo he took of me going to a point. He used the gun I was shooting and my old hunting coat to create the still life as well as the fly rod he used to fish with on our day off from hunting ( look closely and you'll see the most productive fly we used). I commissioned the original painting and enjoy it every day along with several other works of his. I also have a print you didn't mention in your story; it is "Day's End Mixed Bag" by Owen Gromme. Gromme was a very popular wildlife artist and the print was bought by my father at a DU banquet in the 70's. It shows a grouse and woodcock hanging on the wall of a log cabin with a well worn VH leaning beside the game. Love the Parker Pages; keep up the good work." name omitted The Dance piece Crazy Mountains is available in prints; I have one along with limited edition prints by others. Thought people here who are interested in art might find this interesting. |
Bruce, thanks again for your contribution of that fine article and please thank your anonymous correspondent for his compliment of our Parker Pages.
