Anyone know what kind of Woodpecker this is ? I have never seen this type before..Pic from South Texas ..Bill

Bill ,I may be wrong ,But I believe this is a Female Downy Wood Pecker . Russ

Female Ladder-backed woodpecker- (Picoides scalaris). Quite common in your neck of the woods.

ladder back just check birds of north america field guide book bible of bird watching
ladder back due ladder pattern of back feather pattern and wing feathers
if it was a downy we would see a white patch back feather group thus being called a downey
