Chantilly VA Gun Show This Weekend
Kevin McCormack, brother Tom, and I will be in our usual place at Chantilly this weekend. Show opens to the public Friday at 3:00 PM and Saturday at 9:00 AM. Y'all come. The National Firearms Museum is just down the street and is open for business, free admission. The Robert Petersen room is up and running, the best shotgun display in the country.

Don't think I can make it Bill... sorry!

We had a good time without representation from the Left Coast and Alaska contingent. Some Parkers changed hands including one of my most treasured 28" light ten gauge bird guns, an EH bored cylinder and not much more than cylinder. I lost it in a trade for a neat single barrel. Oh well.
|
Sorry I missed that trade. A light 10 for upland hunting is on the top of my list.

OK, the show is over, we had a good time. Many PGCA and Vintager types were in attendance. The CHE 28 gauge is still unsold as is the very minty 0 Grade hammer gun in probably non original wood case with tools and brass. I realize that most CHE 28 gauge buyers are interested in minty examples, but do they really expect that those minty examples haven't had some help? I know that increases in the value of Parker shotguns in multiples of original purchase price are more common in mint high grade guns, but buying neat graded guns in field used condition is still very satisfying for many collectors, regardless of slower appreciation. I have not experienced thousand percent appreciation in my Parker purchases, but I have been very happy with my days afield with them. Sorry for preaching.

That's something we just can't put a value on. On the guns I shoot regularly I would trade days afield for appreciation every time. |
Yup, especially with CHE 28 gauges!!

If only...

Bill ,The neat little single barrel ,did it happen to be a Model 37 Winchester ,in 28 Ga. ? I keep looking for one that isn't three grand ,I think they are the neatest little guns !
|
My single barrel acquisition is a late teens Francotte single in high condition. It has a solid pigeon rib and safety (slide removed). I have been looking for a solid rib single with safety since John Mann told me about his Prussian Lindner solid rib single with safety. John's gun has apparently been cast to the winds on his death.
