10ga barrel weight
What are the lowest and highest weights in 10ga barrels in 32" that the group has seen. Just purchased a 10 bore lifter, waiting for the letter, looks to be high grade dollar gun gold shield on round pistol grip,SKBP. The barrels look huge 7lbs, looks like they took a set of 8ga brls and bored them for ten.

My 1879 Lifter 10 has 32" barrels marked 6-3. The gun is made on a '3' frame.

I have measured the wall thickness on a #6 frame ten. The least wall thickness is .100". If the .775" ten gauge bores were enlarged to .835" eight gauge diameter, the minimum wall thickness would be .070, plenty for a safe eight gauge. That gun weighs 13 pounds, 8 ounces.

I have a 1883 10ga checkhook lifter, 32", 3 frame, marked 5-6.

I also have 10ga 32" marked 5-6 hammer w/ trap BP, picked from a good member on here. Which in turn started me on quest for more 10's. Thanks Russ.lol

#2 frame top lever hammer gun 28" 10 ga two barrel set (both 28" 10 ga's)
first: 3 lbs 13 oz second: 4 lbs 3 oz sorry i did not see you asked for 32"ers. please ignore my post |
John, on the contrary it is interesting to see these barrel weights allover the place. I guess Parker tried to get the gun to weigh what the customer wanted but looks like it would pit the gun off balance . After all you can only put so much counter weight in the stock. I do not have any way to measure here where I am at but the barrel thickness at the breach is got to be over 3/8 of an inch. Is this where they put some metal to try and balance the gun? Bill how does your gun balance?
