GEORGE WORTHINGTON COMPANY

I just received my PGCA Research Letter from Mark on my latest Parker SN 29983. It says that the gun was ordered by the George Worthington Company in Cleveland, Ohio on January 29, 1882 and shipped on May 10, 1882
According to Parker Bros. Order Book No. 13 it was (and is) a Quality 3 To Action hammer, 12 gauge. It came with Damascus barrels of 28 & 30 inches (both are still present) All the other specs. check out with those in the letter. Jim Kelly at Darlington Gun Works is presently restoring the gun for me.

My question is: Does anyone here know anything about the George Worthington Company? Any help would be appreciated.

Best Regards, George

George, I did a quick search on Yahoo.com and came up with lots of information about the George Worthington Company; too much for me to type out when you can probably just look it up and then click on, "print." I think you will be impressed.

George

Google it too. Lots of info. Was big hardware wholesaler. Went out of business around 1960.

I believe George Worthington shot also. Use la84foundation.com to figure out what George was doing around that time. When using the search function, specify "sporting life" and use "george worthington cleveland" to eliminate a bunch of irrelevant information. You may also just use "worthington" to get information that does not include his first name. Always select the "text version" so your guy's name is highlighted.

Sounds like a heck of a gun. Several years back I bought an unused Redhead pad on Ebay. The original box had a Worthington price tag on it. Pad is long gone but think I still have the box. Best I can remember they were a hardware or department store.

Good for you George!! I like to hear about these restorations. I have always believed in keeping the past alive by restoring its artifacts. Best regards, David

Congrat's George, A early 2- barrel set is a great find, When you get it back from Jim show us some Pictures or bring it to the Southern for us to drool over! and by the way drool will not hurt damascus barrels that are wiped down in Preserve oil, although it is as hard to find as that great gun you just found!

Thanks to All who responded: He's about done with the barrels & I believe that it will be completely done by the Southern. I need a good period two barrel case to put it in if anyone here has ne laying around.

Best Regards, George
