protecting with wax

Read on the FAQ'S that wax is used to protect steel on older guns. Any tips on what kind of wax to use and applications? Any other tips for protecting older guns?

Any good paste wax should do. On my barrels I use Waco Danish Oil. Paul

I use "Dri Wash'n Guard", this stuff works good.

Brad Bachelder restored a set of twist barrels for me and said to apply reg'lar Johnson's Paste Wax.

I use Eezox for everything for cleaning & protecting my firearms. I even use it to clean the bores and I notice that build up is less the more I use it. A little goes a long way and it will not harm the finish of the wood if you get it on there. Great stuff.

I use either Johnson's or any good carnuba wax especially when I'm hunting on or around the Chesapeake bay or it's tributaries. Apply it to wood and metal.

Thanks for all the replies, very helpful to a newbie trying to protect his grandfathers and his guns. Great bunch of people here.

I use a wax called "IBIZ", available online from the maker in Florida. It's a pure carnuba wax with no abrasives whatsoever, which is what's important.

Agree with Stubtwist on Eezox but if your planning on waterfowling or other wet weather stuff you cant beat any of the wax's mentioned above. Will save you a lot of headache with rust!
EEZOX is great for all other activities.
