Lines per inch
Need help again! the checkering on a BH panel, how many lines per inch? It's so fine I can't measure it.
Also, at what angle sbould it be cut. I thought I saw somewhere that Parker used a 60% angle but I can't find the source now. Thx and Merry Christmas to all, Ray |
I can't answer your question about LPI on a BH but there is a lot of information on measuring and angles in another thread in the forum, check out http://parkerguns.org/forums/showthr...kering+measure

The checkering on a BH would be fully pointed with 90 degree cutter. Angle is most likely 3 to 1. Spacing should be between 28-32 lines per inch.
I do not know if you have a checkering measure like the diamond shaped one that Dembart offers. But I have found that a lot of the time that you try to measure 100 year old checkering, it very rarely perfectly matches any of the common spacings. Just have to go with whatever is closest. I guess it to be due to the slight inconsistencies in the tools back then. Some others here might have much more to add than me. |
The spacing is 28-32 for the panel or the grip/forend? Isn't the panel finer?

You can measure LPI with a screw thread pitch gauge.
