Engraving
I have a 1907 VH 12 that I received in parts. The stock showed multiple repairs and was missing the part next to the receiver. There was a light layer of crud/rust on everything. The bores are decent and the action locks up tightly. Upon cleaning the trigger plate I noticed what I at first I called a stain, but upon looking at the picture of the Pierce Gun on page 8 of the Parker Pages I realized that it was an engraving. It appears to be an engraving of a woman next to a tree. It is very faint. Is there a catalog of engravings that were on Parkers of that era? Will a research letter tell me if it is a factory engraving?

Carl, there is no catalog of Parker engraving per se, but there are many fine examples that you can access in the "Grades" section from our home page as well as many, many excellent protos of various examples of the various grades in The Parker Story.
It would be extremely unusual that a VH would have any other engraving done at Parker Bros. and even if it had been done by Parker Bros. there is rarely any mention of special engraving in the known factory records. Can you show us a picture of the engraving your VH has? |
Thanks. I tried to take a photo but I will have to get the lighting just right. I will try again. I suspect that it is an "aftermarket" engraving as the gun is a VH, but I can always wish.

Last week ,there was ,I believe it was a 12 Ga. VH Grade on GB ,with a Pointer engraved on the left barrel ," right in front of the breech area ,By the way ,it still may be on there some where " the seller didn't show the right side of the gun if I remember correctly ,the Pointer had quite a similarity to the crooked tail engraved Pointers ,you see on some D Grade guns ????? Never say Never !
