parker bros. double barrel mfg. 1887
 

Going to try again to post message. First did not work, I need information on 12 guage parker bros. shot mfg.in 1887,The word twist is on center of barrel. Does this mean that is twist steel, I have read on another web site that there was only 5000 made with twisted steel.All help will be appericated. New member Richard Tucker.

Post the serial number and maybe it's in the Parker records. Twist steel is a composite material of steel and iron. It was common on lower grade Parker guns of that era. This does not mean lower quality, but refers to the amount of embellishment evident on the gun.

1887 year would suggest a Hammer gun. And Twist barrels is what was used on all lower Grade Parker hammer guns as well as all the P grade hammerless guns.
Not sure of actual production numbers of twist steel barrels, but they were by no means rare. Having them in very good condition, however usually is.

The serial number on the 1887 parker shot gun is 51304.It's the frame size and the guage that makes it kinda rare, It is a 12 guage on a number one frame, Small amount of engraving.Any help would be a big help to me. Thanks for reading this post. Richard Tucker.

Sorry, its not listed in "The Parker Gun Identification & Serialization" book.

One Frame twelve ga
 

The survey published in Spring Parker Pages indicates the one frame predominated on twelve ga guns in the 25000 - 55000 serial range. These gund were not "light" in modern terms. The predominant weight was 7 1/2 to 8 1/2 pounds.

On the water table of parker bros. shotgun serial #51304 is these marking. I don't know what they mean.If any one know I would welcom the help. The marking or as followed. A t with half cresent top and bottom, a letter c over the #4.Any help would be greatly welcome. Richaard Tucker

A t with the crescents usually means "twist" steel in the barrels. The c over the 4 is the normal grade markings of a "C" grade which is also a grade "4". However, a C grade does not usually carry twist barrels; therefore, I think you are misreading a poorly stamped barrel weight stamp which probably means 4 pounds, 6 (not c) ounces. If the "c" is on the upper right hand corner of the 4, I am correct.

Are we talking stamps on the watertable or the barrel flats?
