Just completed the restocking & checkering of my 2 barrel set. IMP CYL & MOD. Also took a 2 barrel, 20 gauge hard case & modified it for the mod 42 set.

Very nice, love those Win 42's. I have 4 and wish I had every one I sold back.

Very nice. A model 42 is on my list of guns I’d like to own. Waiting for the right one to turn up.

I have one which was unfired when I got it. Perhaps has 200 rounds through it. I had a straight stock made for it. Original stock is put away without a mark on it

David, tell us more about your Model 42. I am shopping for number 30. No, that is not a serial number.

It's a 1953, round post donut rib, matching two barrel set that I restocked. I'm attaching a couple of photos of another 42 that I did a few years back.

Just out of curiosity what are the measurements of Winchester .410-bore IMP CYL and MOD chokes? I have a Model 42 with two barrel & magazine assemblies, one 26-inch SKEET that measures .006" and one 28-inch MOD that measures .009". I could never tell a bit of difference on the skeet field.

My 42 cylinder bore crushes skeet targets. Low 4 bite's the dust. https://i.postimg.cc/bNHNNHsf/DSC03130.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/ryGLSyct/DSC04597.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/D06DRZy6/DSC04598.jpg

My 42's choke restriction, measured with a full lenght bore mic: Skeet = .002, IC = .003, Mod = .005

The Shotgun Book by the late Jack O'Connor lists the following regarding choking for the .410 bore shotgun. Data include (in order): boring, bore diameter, muzzle diameter, constriction, and percent at 25 yds. in 30-inch circle:

Full Choke, .410, .396, .014, 70
Modified, .410, .405, .005, 60
Imp. Cyl., .410, .408, .002, 50
Cylinder, .410, .410, None, 40

I've had about a dozen 42's over the years & they mic'd similar to O'Connor's list. I know if you looking at newer charts they list 410 chokes being tighter. The difference could be the period & the ammo, or finding the earlier more open chokes had too many open spots & a tighter choke in 410 was more effective. But who knows??
