Acetone Question
I need to remove some rubbery glue from a poorly repaired dog head butt plate. Is it safe to use acetone on butt plates or will it have any negative effect. Thanks for your help. Gerald.

I'm pretty sure acetone will do some damage. Try WD40 first after removing the plate and letting it soak for a bit.

Do not risk it.

Thank you, sirs. Brian I may have to order another one from you. Its a 20 gauge o frame with the o size on it with a pretty beefy spur. Are the spurs on yours usually large enough or do they have to be built up?
|
There is variation in spur sizes over the years on the various size buttplates. Unfortunately that is just the way it is. And when a buttplate is molded. You are molding that particular plate. I know that mine were molded from a new unfitted plate. So they should be sized to work for most anything. But there are no guarantees.

Most glues like that don’t adhere very well. Have you tried just rubbing it off?
