Primers

BP has Cheddite 209s on sale no hazmat with coupon Fieldx 49.95 per 1000.

Thats a great deal. I was looking yesterday to order some more Remington 209's and boy are they expensive. I think Precision has them for about $105 per thousand. Plus the hazmat fee.

The Cheddite are good primers.

That price doesn't include shipping and sales tax. Still a good deal but just sayin.

Page I'm looking at has a $22 Hazmat fee. What am I doing wrong?

The cheddite's are good primers, but I have had some issues with them piercing in newer O/U target guns.

In the past year I have bought two new Rizzini O/U target style guns in two different models & gauges. In the 12ga I started getting pierced primers on the bottom barrel when using Cheddite's in my reloads. In researching this I found several threads over on shotgun world with this same problem on several different makes of guns with the common thread being O/U guns, the bottom barrel & Cheddite primers. The cure was to switch primers.

I then did my own experiments and switched the same loadings over to Winchester 209's and the problem was gone. Then I bought a 20ga to go along with the 12 and never had an issue with it shooting several hundred rounds of factory shells through it, only to have this gun start randomly piercing primers on both barrels when using reloads with Cheddite 209's. I switched that loading over to W-209's and the problem disappeared.

In both cases it was the same guns, using the same reloading recipes with the only difference being a change of primer brands for solving this issue.

With this said: I've never had a problem with C-209's in any of my SXS's using the same reloads, nor has my buddies with their reloads in their guns, but I sure did in my two guns and I found that I wasn't alone with this issue when I did a deep dive on the shotgun world site.

My buddies made out like a bandit on this deal because I decided not to take the chance with Cheddite's going forward and gave my remaining Cheddite primers to them.

You can take this for what it's worth to you but thought my story & experiences might be of some value.
